Sarah Palin - Canadian Radio Prank Call

MONTREAL â€” A Quebec comedy duo notorious for pulling prank calls on celebrities have struck again. This time, comedian Marc Antoine Audette and Sebastian Trudel Audette, known as the Masked Avengers, tricked Republican Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin into believing that she was speaking to French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

The duo kept Palin on the line for several minutes and discussed politics and hunting, even making a jab at the current Vice-President's infamous 2006 incident where he shot a friend in the face.

Throughout the interview Audette drops hints that he's not who he claims to be. He names popular French singer Johnny Hallyday as his advisor on U.S. affairs and Quebec singer Stef Carse was named as Canada's Prime Minister.

"We have such great respect for you [Sarkozy], John and I," she gushed.

Later in the interview, Audette, jokes that he and Palin shared an interest in common, hunting.

"We should try hunting by helicopter like you did, I never did that," Audette said.

"We could have a lot of fun together while we're getting work done. Kill two birds with one stone," Palin replied.

Palin also went on to praise Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni. "I look forward to working with you and getting to meet you personally, and your beautiful wife, oh my goodness," she says.

"You've added a lot of energy to your country with that beautiful family of yours."

Audette responded by joking that Sarkozy's wife, singer and model Carla Bruni, wrote a song about her.

When Audette said that he saw Palin as President one day, Palin's response was a diplomatic, "maybe in eight years."

At the end of the interview, Audette tips his hand and tells Palin that the call is a hoax. "Oh, have we been pranked," Palin says as she hands the phone to an aide who quickly ended the call.

The call will be airing on Montreal radio station CKOI on Monday, the day before Americans go to the polls.

The Palin campaign has also responded to the prank (from Politico):

"Gov. Palin was mildly amused to learn that she had joined the ranks of heads of state, including President Sarkozy, and other celebrities in being targeted by these pranksters. C'est la vie."

"High School Musical 3: Senior Year," the first big-screen adaptation of Walt Disney Co's popular TV movie franchise, rocked movie theaters around the world during its first weekend of release, the company said on Sunday.

The movie sold $42 million worth of tickets across North America for the three days beginning on Friday, and grossed $40 million internationally. It was No. 1 by both counts, becoming the first worldwide chart-topper since the Batman sequel "The Dark Knight" in July, Disney said.

The "High School Musical" franchise has generated two smash TV movies, two chart-topping albums, and made teen idols out of its stars, Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale.

The plot of the new film brings the cast back to their fictional New Mexico high school, where Troy (Efron) must decide between pursuing a basketball scholarship or his song-and-dance dreams. The usual teen-angst issues ensue.

Elsewhere at the North American box office, "Saw V" came in at No. 2 with $30.5 million, in line with the previous three installments in the horror franchise. The series was released by Lionsgate, a unit of Lions Gate Entertainment Corp.

Last weekend's champ, the Mark Wahlberg thriller "Max Payne," slipped to No. 3 with $7.6 million, taking its 10-day haul to $29.7 million. The film was released by 20th Century Fox, a unit of News Corp.

A study being published today reports that godwits can fly up to 7,242 miles nonstop in their annual fall migration from Alaska to New Zealand. The previous record, set by eastern curlews, was 4,000 miles from eastern Australia to China. The godwits flew for five to nine days, tracked by satellite. The birds weigh no more than 1.5 pounds when they leave. Half of that is fat, which they burn off completely during the flight. Detroit Telangana Community has organized the Bathukamma Celebrations in Farmington (Detroit, Michigan) on October 4, 2008. A lot of people attended this celebrations. Many women graced this occasion in traditional attire and made it colorful. As part of these celebrations, several cultural activites were organized.

About Bathukamma:

Batukamma is a festival celebrated by the women of Telangana region in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. This festival usually is in the months of September/October called as Aswiyuja, concludes two days before Dussera called as Durgashtami.

The name Batukamma is given to a flower stack, arranged with seasonal flowers, usually in seven concentric layers, of potterâ€™s clay like a Cone.

Batuku in Telugu means live/life, and Amma means mother, hence Batukamma celebrates the glory of Gauri goddess (meaning fair or white) - the patron Goddess of womanhood.

In the evenings, women gather different seasonal flowers, dip in colours, some scented and arrange them on a wide plate called as tambalamu, stack them up in a conical mound.

Later they gather in large numbers with their batukammas in their locality, place them in the middle and dance around them, synchronizing steps and claps in unison, and singing soul stirring batukamma folk songs.

Women dancing around their Batukammas After singing and dancing, Batukammalu are set afloat in a lake or a pond nearby.

This festival goes on for seven days and concludes on Durgastami. The main festival day is called Saddula Batukamma. On this day they celebrate into wee hours before leaving their Batukamma in water.

David Blaine lives to pretend to almost kill himself another day.

The 35-year-old illusionist/stuntmeister/attention-junkie has survived his latest feat of fortitude, a 44-foot "jump" after hanging 50 feet above the skating rink in New York City's Central Park, upside down, for 60 hours.

The mystery, supposedly, was whether Blaine's head would pop off, his lungs would explode or some other dastardly fate would befall him (pardon the pun) after spending all that time inverted, which in and of itself could cause breathing trouble, blindness, a stroke and a host of other organ difficulties, according to a vascular surgeon at the scene.

But not only did Blaine look pretty damn good, albeit a little bleary eyed, once he was turned upright, he evaded sharp scrutiny altogether. When it came time to "dive," he sort of fluttered down to Earth before the hoister of his harness whisked him away.

Mystifyingly into the ether, he'd have us believe.

The dishy magician was inevitably a little worse for wear after going since Monday morning without sleep, food or a proper place to peeâ€”and, according to the host of the two-hour ABC special David Blaine: Dive of Death (what, you thought Blaine was doing this for his own amusement?), the magician's eyes started to swell shut by hour four.

"What was really quite remarkable was that his eyes, in the first hour or two, were incredibly swollen and red, and as the time went on, his eyes returned to normal," Blaine's personal physician, Dr. Ronald Ruden said upon observing how practically normal his patient looked.

"His ability to adapt is really almost superhuman."

World's shortest man - leggiest women

He Pingping from Inner Mongolia, China's autonomous region, the world's smallest man meets Svetlana Pankratova from Russia, the Queen of Longest Legs, and they pose at Trafalgar Square in London, Sept. 16, 2008.

Pingping, born with primordial dwarfism, holds the Guiness World Record for the smallest man at 74.61 cms (2 feet and 5.37 inches) and Pankratova holds the Guiness World Record for the longest leg of any woman at 132 cms (4 feet 4 inches) in length.

Got some gas today on the way in, and just as I put the nozzle in the car, a voice that I could not avoid spoke to me from behind. It said; â€œAre you tired of your low mileage vehicle? Then come on down to your GM dealer and explore all of the fuel efficient options we offer!â€ It went something like that anyway.

Of course, it was one of those annoying video screens on the top of the gas pump that are normally telling me about something I really donâ€™t care to hear about as I feed my mechanized monster, but this time, I heard it loud and clear. I nearly stormed off to my friendly neighborhood GM dealer even though I had just leased a new Dodge minivan (yep, I did what I said Iâ€™d never do) only 3 weeks ago.

Wow, talk about getting your message to your target audience at the exact moment they are feeling the pain that you purport to have the cure for. Nearly perfect, and it got me to thinking how we can get our messages across every day at the right time, and at the right placeâ€¦ or more likely, how we donâ€™t do this.

We live in the information age of course, and never before has it been so easy to access what you need to know, when you need to know it. Whatever holes there were as far as having access to that information have been largely plugged by Google. However, most information still has to be sought out by the seeker. We have to proactively locate a search appliance, and at least have a clue as to what keywords will cause the search mechanism to find what we need to know.

So I wonder, whatâ€™s next in the world of context sensitivity? Will we ever get to the point whereâ€¦ say Iâ€™m having trouble figuring out how to forward a phone call, and sensing that Iâ€™m having diffculty, a little hologram guy pops out of the top of the phone and tells me how to do it?

A glimpse of how far context sensitivity could be taken can be seen in the movie â€œMinority Reportâ€ where Tom Cruise is walking along a hallway, and the massive video screens curtail their message to him specifically as he passes them. I donâ€™t think any of us would like to see it go that far, but whatâ€™s a happy medium? At what point is context sensitivity annoying vs. helpful? What say ye?

Don't Judge Too Quickly - Ameriquest

These four commercials for Ameriquest Mortgage do a good job of emphasizing that things are not always what they seem... don't rush to judgment, don't judge a book by its cover, etc.

These were supposedly aired during the 2005 Superbowl.

The campaign was created by advertising agency DDB Los Angeles. On the DDB team were creative director Helene Cote, art directors Feh Tarty and Michael Mittelstaedt, copywriters Pat McKay and Josh Fell, and agency producer Vanessa McAdam.

Production company Morton Jankel Zander (MJZ), provided director Craig Gillespie, director of photography Rodrigo Prieto, producer Deb Tietjen, and executive producers David Zander and Lisa Rich.

Editor Haines Hall works with Spot Welders who host â€˜Surprise Dinner.â€™

Postscript:

Ameriquest in May 2006 decided to close all 229 retail branches and cut 3,800 jobs, in the wake of the subprime mortgage crisis. Apparently the company had taken the â€˜We wonâ€™t judge too quicklyâ€™ approach too far. The parent company, ACC Capital Holdings, was bought by Citigroup in 2007.

Miss Venezuela, Dayana Mendoza Crowned MISS UNIVERSE(R) 2008 During Live NBC Telecast on July 13th 2008.

Slippery Shoes: Miss USA continues the trend of falling on stage during the Miss Universe contest.

This evening, during one of the year's most exciting live international television events, a star-studded panel of judges chose Miss Venezuela, Dayana Mendoza, as MISS UNIVERSE(R) 2008 live from the Crown Convention Center in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa, Vietnam.

Ms. Mendoza is 22 years-old and her career ambition is to become an Interior Designer. She also enjoys photography and is interested in advertising.

The judging panel for the 2008 Miss Universe Pageant included: Donald Trump Jr., Executive Vice President of the Trump Organization; fashion designer and entrepreneur Roberto Cavalli; Nadine Velazquez, international cover girl and star of NBC's "My Name Is Earl"; Jennifer Hawkins, television presenter and Miss Universe 2004; Louis Licari, celebrity colorist and "Today Show" ambush makeover expert; Joe Cinque, President of the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences; Bollywood film & TV star, dancer, model Eesha Koppikhar; Nguyen Cong Khe, Editor in Chief of Thanh Nien newspaper and international shoe designer Taryn Rose. Jerry Springer and Mel B hosted the telecast of the 57th Annual Miss Universe competition where Lady GaGa performed her hit "Just Dance".

Throughout the two-hour event, contestants from 80 countries and territories around the world competed in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown and personality interview. Riyo Mori, Miss Universe 2007, crowned her successor at the conclusion of the two-hour primetime telecast, before an estimated worldwide viewing audience of more than 1 billion viewers.

Final Results:

First Runner Up: Miss Colombia, Taliana Vargas; will assume the duties of MISS UNIVERSE 2008 if the titleholder for some reason cannot fulfill her responsibilities.

Second Runner Up: Miss Dominican Republic, Marianne Cruz Gonzalez;

Rest of Top Five: Miss Mexico, Elisa Najera; and Miss Russia, Vera Krasova.

Rest of Top Ten: Miss Kosovo, Zana Krasniqi; Miss Australia, Laura Dundovic; Miss Spain, Claudia Moro; Miss USA, Crystle Stewart; and Miss Italy, Claudia Ferraris.

Rest of Top Fifteen: Miss Vietnam, Lam Thuy Nguyen; Miss South Africa, Tansey Coetzee; Miss Japan, Hiroko Mima; Miss Hungary, Jazmin Dammak; and Miss Czech Republic, Eliska Buckova.

National Costume Award: Miss Thailand, Gavintra Photijak. The general public voted on www.nbc.com for the international delegate whose national costume best reflected her country's culture, originality in preparation and the delegate's personal demeanor. She received a $1,000 cash prize and a trophy from Rogaska Crystal.

Miss Congeniality Universe(TM) Award: Miss El Salvador, Rebeca Moreno. This award reflects the respect and admiration of the delegate's peers, who voted for her as the most congenial, charismatic and inspirational participant. She also received a $1,000 cash prize and a trophy from Rogaska Crystal.

The MISS UNIVERSE(R) 2008 prize package includes: the Miss Universe tiara created by CAO Fine Jewelry (a division of PNJ) designed by Mrs. Dang Thi Kim Lien and Rosalina Lydster valued at more than $30,000 dollars; a 2 year scholarship from the New York Film Academy worth more than $100,000 dollars to its acting or film-making programs; eveningwear gowns from Scala, designed by Sherri Hill; a national and international multi-media advertising campaign and a complete denim wardrobe from YMI Jeanswear; a custom swimsuit wardrobe from BSC Swimwear Thailand; a shoe collection from Nina Footwear; a trophy from Rogaska Crystal; year-long supply of Farouk Systems products, makers of CHI, the original Ceramic Technology tools; membership to Gravity Fitness and pampering at John Barrett Salon; fashion portfolio by leading fashion photographer Fadil Berisha; consultations with nutritionist and creator of The F-Factor Diet(TM) Tanya Zuckerbrot; dermatology and skincare services by Dr. Cheryl Thellman-Karcher; consultations with personal stylist Billie Causieestko and access to an event wardrobe from leading fashion designers; a New York City apartment for the year of her reign including living expenses and professional representation by the Miss Universe Organization to further her personal and professional goals.
